It was my first time in Portugal - Faro to be exact (Vilamoura to be even more precise). I went away with Athiei and his family to enjoy the warmth of the winter sun in Faro.
We stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vilamoura where there were self-catering apartments which went for a great price, including a full buffet breakfast (which was absolutely delicious). The hotel had 3 outdoor pools and an indoor pool, many other facilities and we shared a 2-bedroom apartment which had a fully equipped kitchen and all that jazz!
We were only a 20 minute walk away from the Marina where beautiful boats were docked and there were quaint little shops along the marina (although many were closed for the winter holidays). However, it felt like we were one of the only ones there! It was great.. there were no crowds or mobs of tourists anywhere as it wasn't the summer season.
We got us some swimwear and flip-flops for everyone so we could go to the beach and the pool.
Had a little chill out under the warm sun at Figo's Decklounge
Ma juicy cooling cocktail
We visited Lagos and popped by the Fortaleza Da Ponta Da Bandeira.
Artifacts inside the fortress.
The view from the top of the fortress.
Just outside the Castelo dos Governadores (Governer's Castle).
Through the arch entrance !
The Old Slave Market
Some children performing traditional dances.
Beautiful choreography and dancing.
Them palm trees... Beautiful
The beautiful cliffs of Ponta de Piedade
And not to forget the endless servings of delicious food..
Here's some Portuguese barbecued pork, chicken and sauges with some tomato salad on the side.
A flowery rice pudding with cinnamon.
Freshly chopped fruit salad.
Sinful Chocolate Cake.
Monkfish and prawns with rice in a tomato-based sauce.
Smoked Salmon with fish eggs on toasted baguette with a minty dressing.
Medium rare steak with melted cheese on top.
Creme caramel mm...
And of course, the beautiful beach - Praia da Marinha
There were only 5 people on the entire beach!
It was like we owned it all!
It was the most amazing holiday.
Am so grateful for everything Athiei and his family provided on the trip.
Definitely a memorable one to add to the list of adventures we have and will embark on.
